World Physical Activity Day

6th April 2022. It’s World Physical Activity Day today.

You’re probably wondering what that is.

Pure and simple, it is an awareness raising day.

I can also tell you what it isn’t. It isn’t a day just for runners to run faster or cyclists to cycle further.

World Physical Activity Day is aimed at getting as many people as possible, including you, to pause and think about how much exercise you’re currently taking, to consider the health implications of your exercise levels, especially if you’re not taking the recommended 150 minutes of moderate activity per week, and challenge yourself to do a bit more than you do at the present time.

The message in my book, Find Time for Exercise, is all about challenging yourself to take a bit more exercise than you do right now. By creating a challenge for yourself you can introduce a bit of structure to your exercise, particularly when it comes to finding time for exercise, and within days you could be enjoying the benefits of more regular exercise.

It isn’t about making massive changes and becoming a runner, it’s just about finding a way to take more exercise than you’ve been doing in the recent past.

Have a read through some of my recent blog posts and see if you can come up with some ideas for how you could start getting out for some extra bits of exercise. Remember that every move counts, so even getting out for a five-minute walk is better than five more minutes sat watching the television.

The simplest form of exercise is walking, so if you do one thing today, celebrate World Physical Activity Day by getting outdoors for a walk that you wouldn’t have taken had you not read this article.
